The Audubon Insectarium

August 23, 2013

I’ll be the first to admit that bugs, especially of those of the Blattaria order, have never fallen into my good graces. It’s been 5 years since The Audubon Insectarium (423 Canal St. New Orleans, LA 70130‎ / 504.524.2847) opened on Canal St. in the U.S. Custom House Federal Building, and it’s taken me just that long to visit. I truly thought my self-imposed arachnephobia was going to take over me the moment I walked in. It could not have been further from what I experienced.

My visit to the Insectarium was filled with interesting facts about all species of insects, confirmation that I truly dislike roaches, as well as one of the most beautiful displays of the butterfly transformation I’ve ever seen. The highlight was the visually stunning catalogued display and explanation of the process of metamorphosis the butterfly goes through.

The Audubon Insectarium is a perfect destination for families especially with the unlimited knowledge and learning potential that awaits them.
