As the Voodoo Music Experience banner was being taken down at the graceful main entrance to the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Disney “Dreams Come True: Art of the Classic Fairy Tales from the Walt Disney Studio” banner was being stung up.
This is how The New Orleans Museum of Art describes it’s latest feature exhibit :
“A major exhibition featuring more than 600 original artworks that shaped legendary animated features including Snow White, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, as well as Disney’s newest fairy tale, The Princess and the Frog, set in New Orleans and due for release at Christmas 2009.”
Looking back at NOMA’s exhibits year to date, I could not be more impressed and proud of their offerings thus far. Everything from “The Art of Caring: A Look at Life through Photography” to Skylar Fein’s “Youth Manifesto” and now “Dreams Come True” has blown me away. With NOLA + NOMA being the only stop Disney has scheduled for “Dreams Come True”, it’s a true testament to the impression our city has made on everyone.
Last but not least I must also make mention the release of Disney’s latest animated masterpiece, “The Princess and the Frog”, which was set in New Orleans. “Dreams Come True” is Disney’s first feature with an African American Princess and includes an ensemble cast : Oprah Winfrey, Terrence Howard, and our very own John Goodman. Anika Noni Rose of “Dreamgirls” fame, takes the lead as Princess Tiana. A good friend of mine made the most perfect observation by stating “the exhibition and feature film is a love letter to our city and the people”. The exhibit runs November 15, 2009 – March 14, 2010 and will remain an endearing statement to our city.
Here is Ne-Yo’s video from the original soundtrack – “Never Knew I Needed” which portrays the city in such a beautiful light.
