This will officially be my shortest post yet. I normally don’t write so little about a particular feature, but this time it’s not words, but actually getting out to see DJ Soulsister spin that makes the difference. For those who have not seen or heard of her, here’s how she describes her show…
“A Revolution Sure Shot in Deep Funk, Rare Groove, D.C. Go-Go, Boogaloo, Super Soul Breaks, Trash Disco, Old School, Hip Hop”
I must have typed and then backspaced over this paragraph a dozen times trying to find words to describe what a SoulSister party is like. Every time I experience her spin the air gets cool and thin, people move and groove, smiles are seen from ear to ear, and the place just grooves. From time to time during the show, I’ll look over and see her smiling with us, and grooving in her own signature way. She is a true NOLA institution everyone should experience.
You can tune in to DJ Soul Sister’s show “Soul Power” on WWOZ 90.7 most Saturday nights 8-10 PM. Click here for her description of the show
My favorite place to see her spin is on Saturday nights upstairs at Mimi’s in the Marigny – “THE Saturday night underground party with underground disco breaks, old school jams and deep funk with your behind in mind. 5 years strong! 11pm-4am.” Click here for more info.
To kick off the New Weekend Edition, I also want to mention that DJ Soul Sister will be performing this weekend at Voodoo Fest. Here’s the deets:
“Voodoo Social Aid and Pleasure Club presents DJ Soul Sister’s Booty Patrol Throwdown – 8:30 this Saturday and Sunday night at the Preservation Hall stage”. Click to visit the Official Voodoo Experience Website.
