NOLA-A-GEAUX GEAUX

New Orleans loves it’s “go-cups.” Visit any other city and New Orleanians have a rough time dealing with the no go-cup situation…speaking from personal experience. Go cups have taken on a life of their own – a designer life. High style, funny and functional, fancy “go-cups” in both earth-friendly and not-so-much materials, are emblazoned boldly in party themes, popular phrases, philosophies and more. The Gaudin’s have long had a family “go-cup” printed with the name of the family home in Bay St. Louis (Tree House) and it’s favored gathering spot, the bar called “The Big Bamboo.” The house washed away (it’s being re-built), but we still have a few of those go-cups and they are precious. When the house is restored, there’ll be a new go-cup for sure. Meanwhile there are these fun cups both in geaux and stay versions, to tide us over…

“Aint Dere No More” icons like McKenzie’s, Rosenberg’s, K & B, etc. are resurrected on pint glasses that hold local brews like unsweetened (please) iced tea, a Vietnamese ice coffee (cafe sua da) rich with condensed milk, or the cool NOLA blonde beer. Plum on Magazine Street has these glasses, available to purchase individually or in sets, one icon or mix it up.

Saints fever continues (6 and 0 baby!!!). I’ve been pondering what kind of cup my new “boyfriend” Darren Sharper (fabulous #42) would use to gulp his Gatorade. I think I’ve found the perfect thing: a tall styrofoam cup with a supportive shout-out plastered on the front. Any beverage would feel right at home. Stashed in big sleeves at Little Miss Muffin, the cup design-styles and words change seasonally. Right now there is a slew of Saints and Halloween cups and there are some cheeky, more upscale looks-like-frosted-glass plastic cups with the clever acronym R.I.C.H. – Relax It’s Cocktail Hour. Isn’t it always? I’ll take mine to “geaux.”

Don’t forget that Little Miss Muffin also carries “Simply Grace” jewelry. It’s simply lovely!
